BAGHDAD / NINA / MP, of the state of law coalition, Abdul Salam
al-Maliki considered the decision of the Presidency of the Council of
Representatives to restrict the movement of journalists within
parliamentary committees and blocs' headquarters as gagged.

    He
said in a press statement today 27. March that "restrict the work of
journalists in the information department and prevent them from taking
the statements and opinions of MPs within parliamentary committees and
blocs is an unacceptable step we see it came to muzzle journalists and
    parliamentarians alike."

Maliki added: "this action is a
dangerous precedent and create oppression curriculum, which is contrary
to all international norms, which gave the press freedom to tell the
truth without falsification or lies," saying that "any move to restrict
the work of the Iraqi press is an attempt to restore the dominance of
one vote, which seems the presidency of the parliament are seeking to. "

    Maliki
confirmed that "we will not be silent on this measure and we will
support any position taken by the journalists to defend their rights,
which is legislated in the Constitution," calling the journalists to
"boycott covering parliament's events and activities in response to this
act and to make a formal complaint to the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate
to lift this injustice . "/ End
