Iraqi military group threatens Kurdistan

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: The leader of Asa’ib Ahl Al-Haq military group Qais al-Khaz’ali rejected
that Kirkuk province should be included in the Kurdish independence referendum.
Kirkuk Provincial Council voted for such participation. The province is composed of different ethnic components and one of the disputed areas between Baghdad and Arbil.
Al-Khaz’ali pointed that the referendum is an “avowed violation of the Iraqi constitution”.
He stressed that if the separation of the Kurdish region, its areas “shall be regarded as occupied territories”.
This words’ escalation against the referendum is not the first to oppose the Kurdish decision.
Kurdish president Masoud Barzani stated, in a press interview, that the Kurds are “ready to negotiate with Baghdad on the borders’ question, including Kirkuk province”.
“We are ready to die for Kirkuk province”, Barzani confirmed.
