    [ltr]Follow up of Mawazine News[/ltr]
[ltr]Polish President André Duda has pledged to review new legislation on "Holocaust and the definition of Nazi death camps" after the move provoked a diplomatic crisis with Israel.[/ltr]
[ltr]On Friday, the Polish parliament, dominated by right-wingers, passed a bill punishing anyone who notes that the "Nazi German death camps" were Polish with a fine or three years' imprisonment.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Senate still has to approve the law that will apply to both Poles and foreigners before it is signed by the president.[/ltr]
[ltr]But Doda said in a statement that he will evaluate "the final procedural legal provisions after the completion of the work of Parliament and careful analysis of the final form of law," according to reported by "AFP."[/ltr]
[ltr]The bill contains an article that applies the penalty of fine or imprisonment to any person who attributes "responsibility or part of the responsibility to the nation or the Polish state in respect of crimes committed by the Third Reich in Germany, or other crimes against humanity, peace and war crimes."[/ltr]
[ltr]The Israeli ambassador in Warsaw, Anna Azari told the Polish news agency "Bab" that her country believes that this item may open the door to prosecute survivors of the Holocaust, after the testimony, if associated with the involvement of Poles in war crimes.[/ltr]
[ltr]She stressed that while the Israeli government rejects the legislation, it "understands" the identity of the party that built Auschwitz-style death camps and "is not Poland".[/ltr]
[ltr]In a clear reference to the concerns expressed by Azari, Doda said, "All those whose personal memory or historical research point to the truth of the crimes and the wrongful conduct that happened in the past with the participation of Poles have the right" to express it.[/ltr]
[ltr]Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday accused Poland of trying to "deny history" through the legislation. "We do not tolerate the alteration of truth and the rewriting of history," he said.[/ltr]
