The commander of the US 10th Mountain Division, General Walter E. Bayat, said on Saturday that Iraqi forces have become a solid professional force after the experience of fighting with "Daash," saying it is arrogant to say that we will go to help them.

"It is arrogant to say that we are going there to help (the Iraqis), they were in a difficult battle. They have a solid professional force and nothing builds experience like fighting. Iraqi security deterred and returned. "

"The next challenge is to work with their Iraqi counterparts to create long-term sustainability for security personnel," he said. "They need training and building a professional Iraqi security force, not just an army but also border guards and federal police."

"The mission comes at a critical time, as Iraq is rebuilding and preparing for the parliamentary elections," Bayat said. "Iraq's security allows security in the region."

The US general's statement is a rare American acknowledgment of the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces and their lack of US and foreign training, contrary to what the administration has consistently claimed. C
