Russia and Japan have warned against taking measures to respond to a decision by the United States to lift tariffs on steel and aluminum by imposing sanctions of up to one billion dollars, the World Trade Organization (WTO) said.
According to documents published by Russia, the US plan will add a financial burden of $ 538 million to its annual exports, while Japan estimated its burdens of about $ 440 million.
Moscow and Tokyo assert that they have the right to impose similar tariffs on US exports, without naming US products, which may be targeted by Russian and Japanese sanctions.
In March, US President Donald Trump approved customs duties on 10 percent aluminum imports and 25 percent steel for the United States, but suspended implementation of the resolution until June 1 for countries including Mexico, Canada and Europe.[/ltr]
