Trump: I look forward to meeting Iranian leadership to develop new agreement
US President Donald Trump said he is looking forward to a meeting with the Iranian leadership in order to draw up a new agreement on Iran's nuclear program that will replace the joint comprehensive plan of action.
Trump said in a statement issued on Wednesday to announce new sanctions on Iran aimed at the mineral sector of the Islamic Republic: "Tehran can expect further measures to radically change its actions."
"After the withdrawal from Iran's irrevocable deal, the United States posed 12 conditions that provide the basis for a comprehensive agreement with Iran," Trump said, "I look forward to meeting with Iranian leaders one day to draw up an agreement and take steps that will give Iran the future that Deserve it, which is very important. "
Trump called on the Iranian regime to "abandon its nuclear ambitions, change its harmful behavior, respect the rights of its people and return to the negotiating table on the basis of good faith."
The Bush administration has taken a tough line on Iran, accusing it of supporting terrorism, destabilizing the Middle East and seeking nuclear weapons.
Under these policies, Trump announced on May 8, 2018, his country's withdrawal from the agreement on Iran's 2015 nuclear program known as the "Joint Comprehensive Action Plan", which the White House deems "the worst deal possible," and imposed a wide range of Economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic, most recently the restrictive measures announced against the Iranian mineral sector.
