The leader of the Kurdish Change Movement, Latif Mustafa, said on Saturday (March 6, 2021) that the authority in the Kurdistan region is in the hands of people who stand behind the government and not with the relevant institutions, including Parliament.
During a seminar on "the rule of law" held in the city of Sulaymaniyah and attended by IQ NEWS , Mustafa said , "The Kurdistan region suffers from a fundamental problem in power and there is a constant question about the absence of the rule of law in it."
He added, "We do not have the authority of the unified state institutions, and what is currently there is the authority of law, and it differs in Arbil from what exists in Sulaymaniyah, and there is no similarity between them."
Mustafa, who is a judge, added, "We have legal, judicial and executive institutions, but the authority is not with these institutions, but with people who stand behind the government."
It is noteworthy that the Kurdistan region has been run for decades by the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Massoud Barzani and the Patriotic Union run by the Jalal Talabani family, who share influence in it, and the first rules Arbil, Dohuk, and Zakho, while the second rules Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, and each of them has security forces affiliated with it within the security and military system of the region. .
