    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, announced today, Tuesday, that the poultry industry has suffered a great loss during the past months, while indicating the loss of more than 3,000 projects.
Al-Khafaji said, in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, which was followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the issue of poultry smuggling was presented to the Council of Ministers, as Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi is personally interested in the issue," noting that "the poultry industry suffered a great loss during the past months."
He stressed, "The loss of more than 3,000 projects as a result of smuggling and dumping the market with imported goods that came through neighboring countries."
He pointed out that "the prices of eggs were sold in the Iraqi markets much lower than the prices in the cities from which they are smuggled," stressing the need to "prevent smuggling to control the production process."
The Ministry of Agriculture, earlier, suggested solutions to prevent the entry of smuggled poultry into Iraq, while confirming its support for the protection of this sector.
She indicated that the entry of smuggled poultry requires the intervention of the Ministry of Agriculture with the security authorities to stop the flow of smuggled agricultural products, as well as tighten security measures at the borders, and follow up on local markets, in order to support the local product and maintain the health and safety of consumers.
