Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Planning confirmed that the government program focuses on addressing poverty in Iraq, noting that a quarter of Iraq's population lives below the poverty line.
The ministry's spokesman, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said that "the ministry is preparing to launch the economic and social survey of the family in Iraq during the coming period," adding that "this survey will give new indicators about the number of those who are below the poverty line, the concentration of the poor, the nature of their condition and the services they obtain in different ways." Because the indices that are being traded today are indicators that go back to previous years.”
Al-Hindawi noted that "the poverty rate in Iraq is estimated between 23 to 25 percent, and this means that almost a quarter of Iraq's population lives below the poverty line."
He continued, "The ministry has begun preliminary preparations for writing and preparing the new strategic plan to reduce poverty that will take into account the reality and challenges that Iraq is going through," noting "supporting the poor in several dimensions, including the areas of health, housing, education, and income as well."
Al-Hindawi concluded his speech by saying: “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani emphasized in his program and in his speech the necessity of poverty policies to the basic degree and unemployment, and we expect that there will be strong support for the poverty reduction strategy during the coming period based on government directions and the new government program that focuses on addressing and combating poverty.” Poverty in Iraq.
