Specialists are calling for localizing the industry

In light of the high volume of trade exchange with neighboring countries and the world, specialists in economic affairs demanded the necessity of working to localize industries in Iraq in a phased manner.
Director General of Planning in the Ministry of Industry d. Ikram Abdel Aziz confirmed that "the Ministry of Industry is supportive of serious efforts to revive the national industry, and there is communication with the industrial private sector through its involvement in the meetings and workshops that are organized, with the aim of producing results that serve the national economy."
She pointed out that "the industrial sector is the axis of sustainable development, and we work according to this basis to overcome all challenges that limit the rotation of the wheel of industrial production."
For his part, a member of the Baghdad Economic Forum, Jassem Al-Aradi, told Al-Sabah: "The wide openness of the borders to various goods and commodities represents a painful reality, as it has caused damage to the national economy in general, and has weakened the industrial output in particular."
He pointed out, "Expectations this year indicate that trade exchange with neighboring Turkey will exceed the barrier of 20 billion dollars, and here we must have a serious stance, and work towards the localization of industries inside Iraq, and there is no harm in having an external partner, even if it is from the countries with which we have an exchange." The economic affairs specialist, Haider Al-Aqabi, attributes the reasons for the spread of bad goods and the borders remaining wide open to the entry of goods and the cases of dumping the market with them to the absence of legal conditions supporting the national economy, which should be set by the standardization and quality control body.
He pointed out that "the continuation of indiscriminate importation in this way, which overthrew our national industry, must be dealt with by the concerned authorities, although what is being imported is nothing more than poor goods that greatly harmed the economic levels of the family, as well as affected the reality of local production." on "supporting the private sector, and studying the situation of workers in some government or mixed companies and factories, noting that the most prominent obstacle hindering the increase of the local product currently is the presence of large numbers of disguised unemployment, which is a factor that contributes to the collapse of the national economy."Also, the concerned and specialized ministries have to benefit from the recommendations and decisions of the many economic seminars that recommend addressing the reality of the local industry and how to advance the productive reality, indicating that a number of advisory centers offered free services to those ministries in order to find real formulas to increase local production rates and eliminate The random import process and reviving the Iraqi industry again.
At a time when the specialist in economic affairs, Silwan Al-Nouri, recommended finding formulas to address disguised unemployment and how to support workers in mixed, governmental and private companies, by accelerating the process of contracting with specialized international companies capable of reducing production costs on the one hand and developing the industrial machinery and its workers from local hands on the other hand. .
Al-Nouri warned that if commodities are produced with moderate financial costs and good quality and specifications, then it is an important step towards limiting the entry of foreign products into the local markets, especially since this step will enhance the conviction of local consumers in the potential of the national industry, and thus there will be an increase in the trend towards consuming the local product and preferring it over importer.
