The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee confirmed today, Sunday, that approximately 90% of the total oil production comes from Basra Governorate.
The Parliament's media department stated in a statement received by the National News Center that "the head of the Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee, Heibet al-Halbousi, accompanied by a number of members of the committee, met with the director of the Basra Oil Company and the advanced staff in it."
Representative Hibat al-Halbousi confirmed, "The selection of the Basra governorate is among the committee's first field visits, as it is the largest oil-producing governorate, as it produces approximately 90% of the total Iraqi oil production, and is considered the most funding source for the federal financial budget."
He added, “The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee is serious about supporting the Basra Oil Company, and overcoming all the difficulties and obstacles it faces,” noting that “the committee will work to secure the financial allocations required to support the company, in coordination with the Finance Committee, and in the presence of the Ministers of Oil and Finance.”
For his part, the director of the Basra Oil Company gave a briefing on “the company’s work, the amount of oil production, and plans to increase production for the year 2029 from 3,200,000 to 5,000,000,” stressing “the need to make financial allocations to complete important projects in this framework, and a detailed presentation was made on a contract French company Total regarding the integrated gas project.
