Prime Minister: Iraq continues consultations to resume oil shipments to the Turkish port of Ceyhan

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani said on Wednesday that the Iraqi government is continuing its consultations regarding resuming oil supplies via a pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, according to Reuters.
The Turkish Minister of Energy, Alp Arslan Bayraktar, said that the crude oil pipeline from Iraq via Turkey, which has been suspended for about 6 months, is ready to resume work, and that Ankara is preparing to start shipments.
Turkey stopped flows through the oil export route from northern Iraq after a ruling issued by the International Chamber of Commerce that ordered Ankara to pay compensation to Baghdad for unauthorized exports between 2014 and 2018. Ankara later began maintenance work on the pipeline, which contributes about 0.5% of global crude oil supplies. The two countries agreed to wait until the pipeline maintenance assessment is completed to resume flows while they continue a legal battle over arbitration awards.
In another context, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Al-Sudani, announced that Iraq is committed to the current mechanism for stabilizing energy prices within the framework of the “OPEC +” agreements.
Al-Sudani said in response to a question about whether Iraq intends to adhere to the mechanism of reducing oil production to achieve price stability, speaking at the plenary session of “Russian Energy Week,” today, Wednesday: “Yes, certainly.” The coordination mechanism has been approved to address all these complex challenges,” according to TASS.
He continued: “We were able to achieve market stability, prevent its failure, and maintain stability and balance between producers and consumers, and these agreements, which are, in fact, to maintain supply and demand, contribute to price stability and meet the interests of consumers and producers, as well as investors. “This is an example of policy and cooperation in response to such challenges.”
