Erbil begins constructing roads for people with special needs

For the first time in the region, the Erbil Municipality began constructing roads for people with special needs.
Municipality Director Abdul Wahed Ahmed told Al-Sabah: The municipality has developed a plan to provide services to people with special needs, especially the blind, by creating specific roads for them.
He added that the focus will be on the central areas of Erbil as a first stage, and then generalization will be made to the rest of the city’s areas. The roads include the outskirts of the Qaisariya Market, as well as the Fountain Park located near the large market, where a special walkway will be created for the blind, special signs will be placed to guide them, and special chairs will be installed for this segment every distance. 500 meters in case they need a break.
Ahmed attributed the implementation of the project in the center of Erbil to the fact that 90 percent of the citizens who visit the governorate walk around its center, noting that the length of the roads within the project reaches more than four kilometers.
He noted that this project will not be the last for people with special needs, as there are ideas for other projects that serve this segment, which is in dire need of services provided by the government.
Ahmed explained that the project completion period is three months, as it was started last week, and the contractor was assured to finish it in a third of the scheduled period.
