    Economy News - Baghdad

[rtl]The Ministry of Planning presented a strategic solutions package to deal with the crisis of the increasing real estate prices in Baghdad and the provinces, coinciding with the country’s cities suffering from stifling population overcrowding.[/rtl]

[rtl]Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi said, “Iraq is facing a deep-rooted housing crisis dating back decades, while the current urban development has not succeeded in meeting the growing demand for housing units, which has caused their prices to remain high,” adding that “the current trend is focused on building cities.” Integrated housing, as the government has a project to build 16 integrated residential cities with a number of housing units starting at 50,000 and reaching 150,000, for each,” according to the official newspaper.[/rtl]

[rtl]He added that as for Baghdad, “there is Al-Jawahiri City, which includes more than 30,000 residential units, in addition to the cities of Ali Al-Wardi and Al-Sadr, which include more than 180,000 units, in addition to residential cities in all governorates, similar to those approved in Babylon, Holy Karbala, and Nineveh.”[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Hindawi stressed that “the new residential cities took into account all surrounding conditions, whether related to the environment, climate, green belts, or the nature of housing, and as a result their impact will be positive in terms of reducing the momentum occurring in city centers and achieving development in the areas where these cities will be established.”[/rtl]

[rtl]He revealed that “the government obligated investors to give 20 to 25 percent of the housing units and serviced lands to be distributed among the groups that need them in accordance with a specific mechanism determined by the government,” noting that “upon completion of these cities, the demand for them will increase and thus costs will decrease.” Explaining that "these measures would achieve some stability in real estate prices."[/rtl]
