The decision of the Presidency of the House of Representatives to punish MPs who are absent from Council sessions by deducting sums of money from their monthly salaries for not attending Council sessions has entered into force.
Deduction of an amount of 170 million dinars
. An informed source in the House of Representatives told PUKMEDIA: The decision of the Presidency of the House of Representatives to punish representatives who are absent from the Council’s sessions by deducting sums of money from their monthly salaries for not attending the Council’s sessions will take effect, and the total deductions from the salaries of the representatives for the month of February amounted to 170 million dinars from the absent representatives. About council sessions and parliamentary committee meetings.
The source added: If any representative is absent from one session, an amount of one million dinars will be deducted from his salary, and 500 thousand dinars will be deducted from his absence from any parliamentary committee meeting.
Deduction of salaries
: The representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc, Briar Rashid, said during a special statement to PUKMEDIA: The Presidency of the House of Representatives decided to deduct the salaries of representatives who are absent from the Council’s sessions.
He added: The Presidency of the House of Representatives decided to deduct an amount of one million dinars from the salary of any representative who is absent from one session without any excuse, in addition to deducting an amount of 500 thousand dinars due to absence from attending any parliamentary committee session without any legal excuse.
Weak parliamentary presence.
Representative Briar Rashid says: This decision came due to the absence of representatives from council sessions and the weak parliamentary presence after the end of the legislative session.
He added: The Presidency of the House of Representatives issued this decision due to the repeated issue of the lack of a quorum and the absence of representatives without any excuse or legal reasons.
This decision already exists.
Independent MP Yousef Al-Kalabi says during a special statement to PUKMEDIA: This decision already exists in the bylaws, but at this stage it was activated due to some political blocs boycotting the council sessions.
He added: The representative's salary is 7 million dinars, and there are 8 sessions of the House of Representatives per month, and for every session in which the representative is absent, an amount of one million dinars is deducted from his salary.
Attempts to disrupt the sessions.
Representative Youssef Al-Kalabi says: If the representative misses 3 repeated sessions without any excuse, and based on the internal regulations, the representative will be dismissed and his immunity will be lifted.
He added: Because of the attempts to disrupt the sessions to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the lack of agreement on this issue, and to obstruct legislative and oversight work, this decision was issued.
