BAGHDAD,— The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced that a lack of access to monitor the Kurdistan Region’s oil production has resulted in the ministry not having any information regarding oil revenue from independent sales undertaken by the regional government.
In a letter seen by a Kurdish member of the Iraqi Parliament, the ministry said “We do not have any information concerning revenue of oil sold by the Kurdistan Region.”
Kurdish MP in the Iraqi Parliament, Hoshyar Abdullah, asked the Oil Ministry on February 14 to disclose how many barrels of oil are exported by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) per day, as well as information regarding revenue of the region’s oil sales.

“The KRG has exported 182.642 million barrels of oil during the year of 2016,” the Iraqi Ministry of Oil said in response to Abdullah, adding however that they did not have information on revenue due to a lack of access.
The KRG itself has faced an economic crisis since a dispute with Baghdad in early 2014 saw its share of the Iraqi federal budget delayed.
Erbil increased independent oil exports via a pipeline that runs through Turkey to the Ceyhan port in an effort to make up for dwindling payments, further straining relations with the central government.
Kurdistan considered as the most corrupted part of Iraq. According to Kurdish lawmakers billions of dollars are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil revenues.
A Kurdish lawmaker said earlier in March the amount of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from oil exports and Iraqi Kurdistan’s revenue has gone missing over the last three months.
Iraqi Kurdistan officials including Massoud Barzani clan, Jalal Talabani family and PUK leaders have long been accused by the opposition and observers of corruption or taking government money.
Massoud Barzani, whose term as Kurdistan President ended on August 20, 2015 but refused to step down and remains unofficially in office, has been accused by critics of amassing huge wealth for his family instead of serving the population. Barzani’s son is the Kurdistan region’s intelligence chief and his nephew Nechirvan Barzani is the prime minister.
Since October 2015 the Kurdistan parliament has been in recess after Barzani forces [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Kurdistan Parliament’s Speaker Yusuf Mohammad Sadiq from entering Erbil city on October 12, 2015 and Kurdistan PM Nechirvan Barzani has [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] four members of his cabinet from the Change Movement and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] them with KDP politicians.
The Kurdish opposition accused the Barzani and its KDP party of a monopoly all government’s positions in Erbil.
