    Twilight News, officials / said that up to 140 Afghan soldiers were killed in an attack on Friday launched by Taliban insurgents disguised in a military uniform and is likely to be the biggest attack on an Afghan army base in terms of the size of the human losses.

    An official said on Saturday in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif north of the country where the attack took place that at least 140 soldiers have been killed and injured a large number. Other officials said the death toll may be higher.

    The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the government has not yet issued a formal statement of the number of victims.

    A US official in Washington on Friday estimated the number of victims at more than 50 dead and injured.

    According to officials he entered up to a dozen Taliban fighters wearing army uniforms and riding an army vehicles easily to the military base and opened fire on the soldiers who were eating or coming out of the mosque after they finished Friday prayers.

    Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said in a statement on Saturday that the attack comes in response to the killing of senior Hamas leaders in northern Afghanistan recently.

    And publishes the coalition led by NATO advisers at the base, which saw the attack to train and support Afghan forces, but officials said that the coalition of foreign forces had not targeted in the attack.

    Afghan Western-backed government is locked in a war long ago against the Taliban and other militant groups.
