    Shafaq News / Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday, dismissing the second secretary of the Iraqi ambassador to Riyadh, Maad al-Obeidi from the diplomatic corps on backgroundof his attackon Shiites in Iraq.

    “After receiving reports of a bad press statement released by the employee Maad al- Obeidi, second secretary at our embassy in Riyadh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took immediate action to investigate with him on irresponsible statements that he released to the Saudi newspaper Asharq in which he dealt with a number of things about the Iraqi society,” a statement issued by the ministry received by “Shafaq News”.

    According to the statement, the ministry considered Obeidi's remarks as "blatant violation and abuse of his duties and work assigned to him”.

    “The ministry’s orders always stress on avoiding all nationalism and sectarianism forms among Iraqi people, as it condemns and refuses to condemn anyone who tries to prejudice the national objectives and principles stipulated by the Iraqi constitution," the statement added.

    Obeidi attacked in an interview the Saudi newspaper Asharq on Iraq's Shiites, describing some of their beliefs as “superstition”.
    The Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki ordered on 20th of July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon al-Obeidi and investigate what was attributed to him of sectarian speech and punish him if it was true

    Obeidi's statements sparked public outrage in the Iraqi street, as all components rejected those statements and condemned them
