{International: The Euphrates News} The British parliament announced on Friday that the maintenance of the famous Big Ben clock would cost twice the original estimate, which was planned for those works.
"The total cost of the project is currently estimated at 61 million pounds ($ 82 million) for the expected 29 million in the spring of 2016," the parliament said on its official Web site.
Parliament explained that the amount of the increase "is now required to ensure that it remains in good condition, and preserve it for future generations."
The cost includes the maintenance of Elizabeth's historic tower in London, adjacent to the British Parliament's two chambers, which includes the Great Clock and bell known as Big Ben.
The familiar beats of the Big Ben clock were silenced controversially earlier this year, to allow for further maintenance.
The reason for this step is to maintain the sound sense of hearing among the famous clock maintenance workers
