    "Two US B-1Lancer bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula in a show of force on Tuesday night amid mounting tension over North Korea's missile and nuclear programs," the South Korean army said.
     
    The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement on Wednesday that "the two bombers were accompanied by fighter jets" F-15K "from South Korea after the two bombers left their base in Guam.
     
    The two bombers, after entering the airspace of South Korea, conducted "air-to-surface" training in the waters off the country's east coast, and then crossed South Korea's waters to China to repeat exercises. He explained that this was part of routine exercises to strengthen military defenses and also to review the US-South Korean alliance.
     
    The US military said in a separate statement that Japanese fighters also joined the exercises, which were the first joint night exercises for US bombers with fighters from Japan and South Korea.
     
    "Flying and training at night with allies in a safe and effective atmosphere is an important capability involving the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea, and refining the tactical skill of the pilots of each country," said Major Patrick Applegate of the US Air Force.
     
    "This is a clear demonstration of our ability to conduct chain operations with all our allies at any time and place," he said. 
     
    Officials from South Korea and the United States were on the alert for further provocations by North Korea as the 72nd anniversary of North Korea's ruling party came to an end on Tuesday.
