Customs warns of the death of 9000 cows in the port of Umm Qasr

    Baghdad / Range

The General Authority of Customs has revealed that the Integrity Commission has stopped unloading a shipment of 9000 cows from Brazil, warning of the deaths of hundreds of them due to their stay in inappropriate places.
The reason for the detention of the cows is due to the reports of the Integrity Commission stating that the importer was subjected to "extortion" from the Iraqi Embassy in Brazil during the purchase and shipment process.
"The vessel (Nablus), carrying 9 thousand heads of calves, arrived at the port of Umm Qasr until the administration of the customs center in the port received shipping papers, invoices and other documents for the purpose of completing the transaction. Meanwhile, we were informed of a decision by the Court of Inquiry in the area of Safwan to detain the shipment. "
Abdul Amir said that "the decision of detention related to the work of the Integrity Commission, where there is news that the importer was subjected to blackmail in the Iraqi Embassy in Brazil during the ratification of documents."
He pointed out that the Customs Authority has no objection to unloading the shipment and holding it in an appropriate place in exchange for guarantees until the matter is resolved between the Integrity Commission and the Court of Investigation. , So as to avoid the importer damage and keep the calves from perishing.
On Friday, the General Company of Iraqi Ports warned of an expected environmental disaster after several appeals it launched weeks after the ship carrying 9,000 cow heads arrived at the port of Umm Qasr.
"The ship carrying these cows arrived two days ago at the port of Umm Qasr, but the relevant bodies there, which are concerned with the inspection and release of the calves, have not done their duty with excuses to cause the death of livestock," said the company's director general, Riad Suadi, in a statement. And their destruction. "
"We will witness the destruction of hundreds of calves in the next few days, and thus pollute the atmosphere of the city and the port. The trader will suffer huge financial losses, not to mention a long list of negative consequences whose consequences can not be predicted," he said.
The Iraqi ports, received at the end of last month, the largest ship specialized in the transfer of cattle coming Brazil.
The General Company for Iraqi Ports said that it received at the port of Umm Qasr "the ship (NABOLI), the largest vessel specialized in the transfer of cattle coming from the port (Villa de Condi) in Brazil with 9000 live cows on behalf of the company Khairat Iraq.
The company said that "cattle were examined laboratory and veterinary before shipment and will be examined again once they arrive in Iraq, taking into account that the Iraqi ports did not receive a shipment of this size."
The large number of Brazilian cows is an attempt to contribute to the loss of livestock in the city of Mosul and its environs and in the surrounding countryside and will contribute to the reduction of the price of red meat in Iraqi markets.
