100 New Zealand advisors finish their assignments in Iraq

     Translation: Hamid Ahmed

100 New Zealand troops have left Iraq for home after completing a six-month training mission to help boost Iraqi forces' combat capabilities against militant militants.
Since their deployment at the Taji base in May, the fifth meal of the New Zealand Defense Forces, along with 300 other Australian Defense Force troops, has trained more than 4,000 Iraqi soldiers.
Major General Tim Gal, commander of the New Zealand Joint Forces, said many Iraqi soldiers trained by the Joint Task Force of the New Zealand Forces had been involved in assigning combat operations against a sympathetic organization, adding that these Iraqi soldiers were now maintaining security in the liberated areas.
"The training we have provided has helped strengthen the combat skills of Iraqi soldiers and helped them regain control of vast areas of territory that have been under the control of the organization for three years. A military self-reliant and self-sustaining. "New Zealand Chief of Staff Major-General Peter Kelly was among those who greeted the New Zealand soldiers after their return from Iraq on Thursday.
"During my visit to the Taji base in October, I was impressed by the professionalism and commitment of our soldiers in training Iraqi forces in a dangerous and harsh environment," said Maj. Gen. Kelly. "During my talks with senior Iraqi officials, they were very grateful for all our efforts. In training".
The Joint Task Force of the New Zealand Forces and the joint tasks of the Australian forces at the Taji base have completed the training of more than 28,000 Iraqi troops since their training began in May 2015. The government last year extended the mandate of training the Joint Task Force of the New Zealand Forces in Iraq until one month November 2018.
