Russia warns the EU of interfering in its affairs

The Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) has called on the European Union to avoid making statements that may be interpreted as interfering in Russia's presidential election.
Ella Bamfilova, head of the Central Election Commission of Russia, said the refusal to register oppositionist Alexei Navalini was a candidate for the upcoming presidential election, which led to the emergence of critical statements by the United States and the European Union.
According to Pamphilova, the EU's statement that political pluralism and democracy in the electoral process in Russia could not be described as interfering in the Russian presidential campaign.
The Russian official called on the EU to consult Russian national documents and facts without relying on suspicious reports, before making such statements.
The Central Election Commission of Russia decided on 25 December to reject Navalini as a candidate for the presidential election in March 2018.
