Israel said it had severely damaged Syrian defense systems after a fighter jet dropped over Syria.
Senior Israeli Air Force general Tomer Bar said the response was the "strongest attack" of its kind against Syria since the 1982 Lebanon war.
Israel says its F-16 was shot down during a mission following the launch of an Iranian drone into Israeli territory.
The two pilots jumped from the Israeli fighter before they crashed in northern Israel, while Israel says it responded with a wave of attacks on Syrian and Iranian military targets in Syria.
Later on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with his military leaders.
Netanyahu said Israel wanted peace but would defend itself "against any attacks it targets or any attempt by Iran to create an entity against us in Syria."
