Baghdad proposes to British «BP» study the development of Kirkuk oil fields

     Baghdad / AFP

Iraq has proposed to BP on Sunday to study all the oil fields in the province of Kirkuk, in order to determine a development plan to allow increased production, according to Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Allaibi.
"The BP chief executive will visit Kirkuk this week and I have proposed to the company to include all its oil fields in Kirkuk, they are studying my proposal and waiting for their response," al-Allaibi said. The oil ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with BP in 2014 , To study the reserves and find ways to develop the field Baba Karkar, the oldest in Iraq, which dates back to 1927, in addition to the field of Havana.
We have now signed a new memorandum a month ago. "The Kurdistan region authorities controlled all oil fields and installations in Kirkuk in the chaos that followed the entry of the Daash organization.
The Kurdish Peshmerga forces then captured the Kirkuk region on six oil fields producing between 340 and 550 thousand barrels per day, which were exported by Kurdistan, despite the rejection of Baghdad. The Kurds managed the Khoramala field directly since 2008, and the fields of Havana and Bay Hassan Since 2014. These fields produce 250 thousand barrels per day. The other three fields, Baba Karkar, Jampur and Bazb, officially managed by the North Oil Company, but proceeds go to the Kurds.
In October, Iraqi forces recovered all oil fields in Kirkuk province and disputed areas in the northern provinces controlled by the Kurds in 2014, with the exception of Khormala.
In the same context, Al-Luaibi continued, "Khormala returns to the North Oil Company, and we started developing it in 1995. We dug 36 wells and in 2004 the ministry started a $ 37 million development program."
He explained: "In 2008 and 2009, the Kurdish Ministry of Resources controlled it, but the king of the Ministry of Oil and the federal government."
