Russia has doubts that America wants to stay in Syria for a long time, if not forever, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.
"Our American colleagues now hear other explanations for their presence in Syria," Lavrov said at a news conference with his Belgian counterpart. "This presence should continue not only until the end of military missions, but a stable political process acceptable to all. In general, we have doubts based on some other reasons, which I will say now - that the United States wants to stay there for a long time, if not forever. "
"The Americans, in my opinion, are acting through dangerous unilateral steps, and these steps are increasingly seen as part of a plan to create a state-like state on much of Syrian territory and on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and up to the Iraqi border," he said.
Asked about the Pentagon's alleged $ 550 million in funding for the Syrian opposition and the formation of border security forces, Lavrov said: "In general, and especially in the final stage, questions about American actions in Syria are growing and being practiced without a call.
