WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration is seeking to impose tariffs on imports from China worth $ 60 billion and will target the technology and telecommunications sectors, a source who discussed the issue with the White House said on Tuesday.
Politeko reported earlier that Trump rejected proposals for customs duties on Chinese imports worth 30 billion dollars.
The source said tariffs would not be limited to technology and communications equipment.
China has recorded a surplus of 370 billion dollars in its trade with the United States, and Trump's chief economic adviser, Xi Jinping, who has visited Washington recently, urged ways to reduce that figure.
While Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum last week are seen as relatively unimportant in terms of imports and exports, moves to target China directly raise the risk of a direct and harsh response from Beijing.
