Germany has recorded a significant rise in the birth rate, the highest in the country since 1973, after decades of declining fertility levels, thanks to immigrants.
The German Bureau of Statistics reported that the birth rate in Germany rose by 7% in 2016, due to the high rate of reproduction, which is due to the influx of migrant mothers to Germany.
The Bureau of Statistics revealed that in 2016, the country recorded about 792 thousand births, which is a fertility rate of 1.59 children per woman compared to 1.50 in the previous year.
The agency added that German mothers have placed 60,7500 children, up by 3% compared to 2015, and mothers of foreign nationalities have made 184660 children, a rise of 25% compared to the year 2015.
The office explained that Syrian immigrants had 18,500 children in Germany in 2016 compared to 4800 children in 2015 and 2,300 children in 2014.
Afghanistan has given birth to 5,900 children, compared with 2,000 children in 2015. Iraq has given 5,500 children to 2,800 children in the previous year. Turkey has given birth to 21,800 children, 200 children more than in 2015. Turkey is the largest foreign community in Germany in decades.
Germany is the European average of the fertility index after years of being at the bottom of the scale. In 2015, Germany recorded the highest population growth rate of 1.2% to 82.2 million since reunification due to the influx of asylum seekers.
It should be noted that without the arrival of refugees in large numbers, the population of Germany has declined, because the country recorded in that year 188 thousand deaths more than births.
Although the high birth rate in Germany is good news, it will not adjust the decline in population after decades of low birth rates.
