fighters of the organization renewed the pledge of allegiance to the leader of the organization Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, believed to be the first public commitment to loyalty to him since the collapse of the so-called "succession state" in Syria and Iraq last year.
According to Reuters, the fighters of the organization said in a statement posted on the social networking sites belonging to the organization: "Teasing the infidels and terrorism to them renew our sale to the faithful and the successor of Muslims Sheikh Mujahid Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Husseini al-Qurashi may God protect him."
"It is the first allegiance to al-Baghdadi since Iraqi forces regained control of Mosul last July," Hisham al-Hashemi, who said he was advising a number of governments, including the Baghdad government, told Reuters.
A coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters took control of Raqqa in November with support from the US-led coalition.
Reports of whether Baghdadi, an Iraqi national, is still alive, are mixed, but al-Hashemi said he believed Baghdadi was hiding in the vast desert on the Iraqi-Syrian border.
US air strikes led to the death of most of Baghdadi's aides, including "warlord" Abu Omar al-Checheni, "the governor of the Iraqi region," Abu Musallam al-Turkmani, the organization's spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, and "ruler of Syria" Abu Ali al-Anbari.
