Deputy Minister of Roads, Urban Development and Railways Amir Amini announced on Sunday negotiations between Iran, Iraq and Syria to link the railway network between his country and the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean.
"Linking Iran's railways to Iraq and then to the Syrian ports in the Mediterranean will reduce dependency and restrict trade on the roads, and facilitate the exchange of religious tourism between the three countries," Amini was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Establishing a railway between the Gulf and the Mediterranean through Iraqi Basra to Abu Kamal and from there to Deir Al-Zour in Syria is one of the main projects approved by the APEC ," he said.
"If the railway networks between the three countries are connected, another major step will be taken to connect the Chinese railway network to the Mediterranean through Iran, Iraq and Syria, and there has been some planning in this regard on the matter," Amini said. Ending / 25 z
