Twilight News / James Jeffrey, the US special official for Syria, described Iraq as the most "Arab" countries open to the world, praising the federal government in Baghdad and its president Adel Abdul Mahdi.
Asked about the situation in Iraq amid the divisions and protests that followed the formation of a new government, the US official, who was his country's ambassador to Baghdad, said: "These challenges exist in every Arab country."
He added that in the case of Iraq, "we must remember that the organization of the Daash was occupying one third of its territory, and the economic power of Iraq based on oil exports has been reduced by the drop in oil prices by half in 2014. Iraq today the most open country to the world among the Arab countries and has a government Experience".
Jeffrey praised in particular the experience of President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, "which we have worked with them since 2004," as he put it.
