The Turkish lira fell against the dollar on Monday after US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would destroy Turkey economically if Ankara attacked Kurdish guerrillas in Syria backed by Washington.
The lira, which lost nearly 30 percent of its value against the dollar last year, fell to 5.53 against the US currency by 0736 GMT from near 5.4540 on Friday after touching 5.5450 in morning trade.
Trump threatened Turkey with economic destruction if it attacked Kurdish allies allied with the United States in Syria, prompting Ankara to respond warning of a serious mistake.
Separately, data showed that Turkey's industrial output fell for the third month in a row, adjusted by 6.5 percent year-on-year in November, in an additional sign that the economy is slowing.
