Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday thanked the Iraqi government for failing to "comply" with US sanctions against Tehran.
"We are proud that Iran stands with Iraq in the fight against terrorism," he told a news conference in Baghdad with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Ali al-Hakim. "The two countries are supportive of the security of the region.
"We have held talks in preparation for the visit of President Hassan Rowhani to Iraq, and we reached understandings in the hope that a final decision will be taken at a meeting of spiritual and Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi."
For his part, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali al-Hakim said, "We discussed the files of agriculture, industry and health, in addition to the issue of granting visas on the days of visits."
He added that "broader understandings will be signed on Monday in the presence of Iranian President Hassan Rowhani."
