Washington comment on the sentence of Iranian lawyer Nisreen Stouda: barbaric!
The United States has rejected "in the strongest possible terms" the sentence handed down by adding more sentences to Iranian human rights lawyer Nasreen Stouda, who is serving a five-year sentence.
An Iranian court sentenced her to 10 years in prison and 148 lashes, her husband Reza Khandan announced.
"This rule goes beyond barbarism," State Department spokesman Robert Paladino said.
After her arrest in June 2018, Stouda was informed that she had been sentenced to five years in absentia for espionage.
The American condemnation follows a similar EU condemnation, calling for an "immediate review" of the case. Stouda, who won the 2012 Sakharov Prize from the European Parliament, has not received a fair trial before the Tehran court, stressing the need to respect her right to appeal. Judgment.
Stouda has defended many of the women arrested between December 2017 and January 2018 for wearing the headscarf in public places to protest against being forced to do so.
For its part, Amnesty International described the sentence as "gross injustice", saying that the Iranian authorities "punish them for their work in favor of human rights."
