The period after the 2018 parliamentary elections saw a conflict between the Hadi al-Amiri construction coalition and the Reform and Reconstruction coalition led by Muqtada al-Sadr, but this difference ended with the two leaders agreeing that Adel Abdel-Mahdi took over as prime minister at the time.
Abdul-Mahdi's resignation from the government as a result of the ongoing protests since the beginning of October put the political process at stake and the talk of political blocs is only about holding early elections and electoral laws to meet the demands of the protesters, but the bloc's candidates to head an interim government face a continuous rejection of the demonstrators.
"The demonstrations are demanding the end of the current political class and not the nomination of a party figure after the allegation of resignation from the party, as did the representative Muhammad Shi'a Al-Sudani, who was a former minister," protester Mohammed Al-Yasiri said in an interview with Mawazine News.
He added, "The demonstrators want a national candidate who has not received any executive or party positions to run the next government in preparation for the holding of parliamentary elections with a fair law."
He noted, "All the corrupt who have stolen the country’s money since 2003 must be held accountable and the party candidate will not do so."
And on the President of the Republic’s book to the House of Representatives on defining the largest bloc, Al-Yasiri said: “The people are the largest bloc.”
Informed political sources spoke about the nomination of Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani, and Mustafa Al-Kazemi for the post of the next prime minister, but the protesters reject them, according to Al-Yasiri.
