{International: Al Furat News} The US military said it “succeeded” in disrupting online ISIS propaganda efforts in a piracy operation dating back to at least 2016, according to a national security document that was declassified.
The documents revealed that the US leadership "successfully penetrated the range of information to ISIS" and limited its online efforts to persuade and recruit individuals to extremism.
The documents, published by the National Security Archive at George Washington University, provide a detailed look at the "glowing symphony process", the first cyber-hacking operation recognized by the Department of Defense.
The documents pointed to a "significant retreat" in the e-regulation campaign, but added that the efforts of the IT leadership have been hampered by the "long and difficult" process of approving its operations.
The documents called for improved procedures "to help expedite applications and the approval process".
Officials have previously admitted to resorting to information attacks within the framework of the US arsenal, but the disclosed documents provide a detailed assessment of the steps against the organization carried out by a joint task force established by US President Barack Obama.
According to a statement from the university’s archives, the “glowing symphony” process was approved for 30 days in late 2016, but the process was extended according to an “administrative message”.
The hacking operation represents the American response to concerns about extremist groups using social media and electronic services to promote their causes and their efforts to promote recruitment and spread extremism.
