ARBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Miniature Iraqi army forces deployed on Friday morning in Sadr City, located in the eastern suburb of the Iraqi capital, to compel residents to ban curfews after the outbreak of the Corona epidemic in the country.
Although a curfew was announced about ten days ago in Baghdad, life appeared in those days as normal in many popular areas, including Sadr City.
The Iraqi Minister of Health asked the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to invite his supporters to unnecessary their homes, especially in Sadr City, which caused Sadr to respond to that.
Al-Sadr ordered his Saraya Al-Salam militia to help impose a curfew in Sadr City, where its residents owe allegiance to him. Hours later, many responded to Sadr's appeal for unnecessary homes.
Two witnesses told Kurdistan 24 that many people responded to preventive measures, but there were still allowing their children to go out into the streets to have fun.
A well-informed source said that the Iraqi army had already deployed a number of its law enforcement units, and indicated that the soldiers had blocked off main roads and streets in the city.
Correspondents saw many streets and seemed closed with concrete barriers to bring to mind the difficult days in Baghdad after the fall of the former regime.
Iraq has extended the curfew to 11 next month in an attempt to control the spread of the Corona virus, officially known as Covid-19.
