The two presidents also discussed the future of the foreign presence in Iraq. 
    The media office of the Iraqi president said, in a statement, that Saleh and Rouhani exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan during a telephone call, during which they discussed bilateral relations, and ways to develop them in various fields, in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples, and strengthens the strong relations between the two countries, noting that the contact also discussed developments Situations in the region of common interest. 

    The statement of the media office of the Iraqi president added, "The importance of easing tensions in the region has been emphasized, the commitment to dialogue and convergence in resolving the outstanding issues, and unity in facing various challenges, especially the Corona pandemic and work to limit its health and economic repercussions, and work to stabilize security and stability in the region." . 

    On the other hand, the Iranian "Fars" news agency confirmed that Rouhani said during the phone call with Barham Salih that Iraq's security is Iran's security, affirming Tehran's rejection of any external interference in Iraq's internal affairs. 
    He added that "strengthening Iraq's pride and power, consolidating its independence and upgrading its regional and international status is of special importance to us," explaining that foreign interference in Iraq’s affairs is harmful to the region. 
    He indicated that the countries are concerned with providing their security, noting that "the Americans are acting in duplicity in combating terrorism, and that their practices in the Iraqi-Syrian borders are ambiguous," according to what the agency said. 
     "The role of the Americans in the region has always been destructive, and the presence of the American military in the region does not help to establish peace and stability in it," he added.

    The Iranian president stressed the need to implement and activate previous agreements between Tehran and Baghdad, including the "Shalamjah-Basra" railway project, pointing out that "Iran and Iraq can, in light of their economic capabilities, expand cooperation between them as two economies complementing one another, and increase the volume of exchange and trade relations through Promoting freight forwarding, transportation and transit activities. " 


    Fars news agency quoted the Iraqi president as saying that his country is serious about the decision to end foreign military forces, indicating that strategic dialogues will be held with the United States in this regard until a conclusion is reached. 
    Saleh indicated that Iraq's relationship with Iran is strategic and growing, calling for strengthening and consolidating relations in all fields, especially economic and commercial, in light of the cultural and historical commonalities between the two countries.   
    On Tuesday, the Iranian Defense Minister, Amir Hatami, considered that the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq would contribute to establishing security and stability in the region. 
    He explained during his meeting with the Iraqi National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, in Tehran, that the development of defense and security cooperation between the two countries represents an important element in consolidating the strategic aspects of relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
