A source that asked to remain anonymous told BasNews that a high level Iranian delegation is expected to arrive to Erbil on Tuesday, to speak to senior Kurdish officials about the latest developments in Iraq and to find an alternative to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
    -

BasNews has also learned that the US has allegedly promised Kurdistan Region officials to replace Maliki. Iraqi Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani also urged Maliki to leave his post.
    -

Muaed Tayib, former MP in the Iraqi Parliament told BasNews that removing Maliki is the duty of every Iraqi and that once he has left Iraq’s political process will change.
    -

“Every Iraqi, Iranian and American has reached the conclusion that there shouldn’t be any more of Maliki’s ruling, which has been a failure,” added Tayib.
    -

Iran has been a strong supporter of Maliki and his government and their shifting position is seen as a turning point in Iraq’s crisis.
    -

Tayib explained that the absence of Maliki would benefit the Kurds, because anyone who replaces him cannot ignore Kurdish rights anymore.
    -

Bakir Hama-Sideq, former MP in Baghdad, explained that removing Maliki from power would solve much of Iraq’s political complexities.
    -

“For the Kurds the most important part of removing Maliki would be a change in Baghdad’s attitude, not only a change of faces,” Hama-Sideq told BasNews.
