Barkindo said in Barkindo’s speech at a video conference on the occasion of the launch of the (OPEC) Annual Statistical Book for 2021, which includes the organization’s perceptions about the global oil industry in the next stage until 2045, that “renewable energy sources - which mainly combine solar and wind energy.” And geothermal energy - will see the largest growth in absolute terms and percentage, leading to a share of more than 10 percent by 2045."
Barkindo described the statistical book as a "useful reference tool" that enables the organization to exchange knowledge, and confirms the continued focus of the (OPEC) Plus Agreement countries on strengthening dialogue and cooperation between 23 producers from within and outside (OPEC and non-OPEC), which helps to secure a sound and stable oil industry.
He pointed out that "the new issue reminds us of the most important points and stages that the global oil sector went through during 2020, which witnessed the largest ever global decline in demand for energy and oil due to the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic, but the year 2021 witnessed, in turn, a great recovery due to the beginning of recovery from the pandemic." .
Barkindo added that "(OPEC) expected in its annual book that oil will maintain the largest share of at least 28 percent until 2045, pointing out that the recovery that started little by little led to growth in all major fuels except coal, and it is likely that global demand will reach Oil will reach 108.2 million barrels per day by 2045, and it recorded its lowest level of 90.6 million barrels per day in 2020. The
book predicted that India would be the largest contributor to the increasing demand for crude, adding 6.5 million barrels per day between 2045 and 2020.”
He pointed out that “the demand for oil in the aviation sector is the most affected by the restrictions of Corona, but it is expected to recover in the long term, and the crude and condensed oil trade will recover to reach levels above 38 million barrels per day in 2025 and increase by more than 40 million barrels per day as of From 2035 onwards.
The Asia-Pacific region is the main outlet for crude oil and condensate imports, which will rise from 23.5 million barrels per day in 2019 to nearly 30 million barrels per day in 2045. The Middle East remains the largest supplier to this region, as exports increased by 4.8 million barrels per day. during this period.
The statistical book also indicated that global cooperation could lead to a more consistent, balanced and integrated approach to achieving the Paris Agreement and the interrelated sustainable development goals, and to the search for cleaner and more efficient technological solutions for all available energies.
