The US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, spoke about her visit to the UAE and its reasons, considering that "Iran is a threat to its regional neighbors."
In an interview with CNN about Washington's efforts to tighten compliance with sanctions against Iran, Victoria Nuland explained the goals of her visit to the UAE, saying: "There are a lot of companies here that have historically traded with Iran, so it's important that we work together also to ensure that we don't violate Sanctions, that's what we do.”
The US Under Secretary of State stressed the need to "bring Iran back to the negotiating table," adding: "Iran is not just a threat to us...it is a threat to its regional neighbors."
This came against the backdrop of faltering diplomatic efforts to revive the Iranian nuclear agreement through the Vienna talks.
On regional developments, Victoria Nuland said: “This is a moment in which the (Middle East) region is changing dynamically.. You can see that in the relationship between the UAE and Israel, the relationship between Israel and Jordan, and the relationship between Israel and many of its neighbors.”
And the US official added: “It is important that it continues, that all these relationships are a force for peace, stability and prosperity, and it is important that the Palestinians are not left behind.”
It should be noted that a high-ranking US Treasury delegation will be sent by Washington to the region next week, following Nuland's visit to the UAE, in a move to tighten the application of sanctions against Iran.
