    {Economic: Al-Furat News} The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, chaired today, Sunday, the first meeting of the National Seed Council, for the current year 2022, in the presence of the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry, Mahdi Sahar Al-Jubouri, the technician Mithaq Abdul-Hussein Obaid, the Ministry’s advisor, Mahdi Damad Al-Qaisi, and members of the Council as well as A number of agricultural specialists.

    According to the statement, {Al-Furat News} received a copy of it, Al-Khafaji stressed "the continuation of the program's efforts in its vital work in promoting the seed sector to support the national economy, while the previous meeting of the council was reviewed, with emphasis on its implementation."
    The statement continued, "A number of paragraphs were also discussed and others approved in order to strengthen the seed sector, including:
    1- Reviewing the legal department’s letter regarding the establishment of a seed purification plant by the Agricultural Research Department and signing contracts.
    2- Seeing the letter of the Seed Examination and Certification Department regarding the request to stop granting purification licenses, where the decision was issued to continue receiving requests until the matter is studied.
    3- View the book of the Mesopotamia State Seed Company on the processing of wheat seeds affiliated to the program of multiplication of seeds of the higher grades of the wheat crop.
    4- Studying the book of the Directorate of Agriculture of Babylon, which deals with the research obstacles of seed producers in the governorate.
    5- The approach of the Ministerial Council of Economy and the Ministry of Water Resources, after reviewing the letter of the Wasit Governorate Office on the treatment of water scarcity.
    6- Approval of the minutes of the committee charged with looking into the unapproved local traded varieties and hybrids (lettuce, squash, okra, cucumber, eggplant) and including them in the approved pricing and listing them within the locally traded varieties in the National Committee for the Registration, Approval and Protection of Agricultural Varieties.
    7- Vote to approve the increase in the allocation of the national program to sustain the multiplication of seeds of the higher ranks of soybeans from (250) million dinars to (500) million dinars from the Seed Support Fund.
