    Iraq's mission to the United Nations revealed the rationale for Iraq's position on the General Assembly's resolution on the situation in Ukraine and condemnation of the Russian invasion. 
    A source in the mission confirmed to the news agency that the stance of abstaining in the vote was an Iraqi stance that was taken based on the national vision and concerns.
    The source added that this position expressed Iraq's keenness on the unity of the Security Council, which resulted from effective and balanced Iraqi diplomacy for two decades. This unit has resulted in the general position of the Council of many achievements made by Iraq, whether in terms of items related to the Iraqi situation, or in the field of combating terrorism.
    He continued, Iraq did not want to risk the unity of the Council, which made the state of cooperation between Iraq and the Council a model for the United Nations.
    The source indicated that Iraq expressed its concerns and concerns in a statement justifying the abstention, which indicated "the grave concern over the possibility of terrorists exploiting this crisis and the expected state of division in the international community, in a way that disrupts and impedes joint international efforts aimed at combating terrorism and violent extremism." As well as expressing concern about the possibility of exposing countries to economic and security crises as a result of this crisis.
    According to the source, Iraq called on all parties to resolve the crisis by giving priority to the language of dialogue through diplomatic means and to the negotiating table to solve the outstanding problems between them, stressing the quest to maintain international peace and security. 
    The source revealed that the permanent representation of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York was subjected to great pressure from various countries for a period of three days through continuous and intense communication to request Iraq to support the resolution.
