Iraq is among the worst countries in the global labor rights index
Shafaq News/ The International Trade Union Confederation issued its report for the year 2022 related to the index of workers' rights in the world.
Iraq came within the index category 5 allocated to the lack of guarantees for workers' rights.
The economic expert, Manar Al-Obaidi, said, in a statement received to Shafaq News Agency, "Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Estonia, Guatemala, the Philippines and Turkey topped the list of the 10 worst countries in the labor rights index."
He added that "indicator 5 is related to the lack of rights guarantees, and comes after it in the +5 classification, which indicates the lack of guarantees of workers' rights as a result of the collapse of the rule of law, where Myanmar came at the top of the list."
Al-Obaidi explained that Iraq suffers from weak labor protection laws, weak security and retirement laws, arbitrary labor market and failure to educate the Iraqi worker about his rights towards the place where he works.
He continued, "As a result of the lack of job opportunities in comparison to the volume of demand, the worker gives up a lot of his stipulated rights, such as vacations, working hours and additional times."
He pointed out that "the biggest problem facing the labor market is the randomness of the market and the non-compliance of employers with labor and security laws as a result of the absence of follow-up, scrutiny and registration."
