Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed, with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, the second Baghdad Conference on Cooperation and Partnership, to be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, which will discuss, within several axes, protecting Iraq from external threats.

This came during a tripartite meeting held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and discussed preparations for the conference, which aims to sustain dialogue between the concerned countries, enhance cooperation and stability in the region, build economic partnerships, and protect Iraq from external threats.

The Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership was held in Baghdad on August 18, 2022, and the participants decided to “form a follow-up committee from the foreign ministries of the participating countries to prepare for periodic meetings of the conference, and to discuss the strategic economic and investment projects presented by Iraq.”

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fouad Hussein, is visiting New York, in the United States, to participate in the work of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today, Monday (September 19, 2022), that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein is participating in the opening of the work of the United Nations General Assembly at its 77th session, held in New York."

Fouad Hussein will meet with a number of his counterparts and senior officials from the countries of the world, to discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, and intensify efforts in support of Iraq and its reconstruction, in addition to emphasizing Iraq's foreign policy and its active role in enhancing security and stability in the region.

For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Muthanna Amin, told Rudaw Media Network that the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly are routine held annually, and that meetings will be held on the sidelines, adding that his committee was not informed about this visit.

The annual meetings of the United Nations General Assembly are an important event in which world leaders participate.

The meetings begin on September 13, but the presidents attend them as of September 20 to deliver their speeches that deal with the crises the world is going through, and at the same time it is an opportunity to hold bilateral meetings between them.

And earlier, the spokesman for the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Hassan Nazim, stated that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, who left for New York to participate in the meetings, will meet high-ranking figures, considering that Al-Kazemi’s participation “is important in representing Iraq diplomatically, and enhances Iraq’s position internationally.” .

Hassan Nazim noted that “the government succeeded in the file of foreign relations and was able to dismantle the crises.”

The meetings of the United Nations General Assembly this year focus on a number of issues, including increasing humanitarian assistance to the world's crisis regions, food insecurity and climate change.
