The Antiquities and Heritage Authority at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced today, Monday, that its negotiations with Britain regarding the return of 5,000 artifacts have reached advanced stages.
"Our negotiations to recover 5,000 artifacts from the British capital, London, have reached advanced stages," said the head of the commission, Laith Majeed, in a statement reported by the official newspaper, noting that "the commission is awaiting official approvals and the transportation mechanism from London to Baghdad."
Majeed pointed out that "the ministry continues to recover Iraqi antiquities smuggled abroad," noting that "many countries and foreign entities have shown their assistance in this field."
And the head of the Antiquities Authority continued, "There is work to return more artifacts since the completion of the recovery of 15,000 pieces from the United States of America," noting that "some countries are still reluctant to cooperate with the ministry and the authority in restoring our antiquities, but Iraq is determined to recover the last." piece outside.
