Baghdad Governorate announced today, Wednesday, the intention to establish a new airport in the capital, while confirming the allocation of funds within the budget to rehabilitate Baghdad International Airport.
The governor of Baghdad, Muhammad Jaber al-Atta, said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the province is committed to developing everything related to Baghdad International Airport, as it is the only outlet for the capital with the countries of the world," noting that "Baghdad Airport is one of the most important outlets in Iraq."
He explained, "The airport now has 3 terminals," noting that "the fourth terminal has not been established since its opening, and there are efforts to redesign and complete the fourth terminal."
He expressed his hope for "the establishment of a new airport, especially since the current Baghdad airport has become old and does not keep pace with developments taking place in the world."
He added, "There is a real intention to establish a new airport worthy of the capital, Baghdad," stressing that "the province has allocated funds within the budget to rehabilitate Baghdad International Airport."
Earlier today, Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority opened the Samarra and Nineveh lounges at Baghdad International Airport, under the guidance of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.
