On Tuesday, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, stressed the need to proceed with holding legislative elections in the Kurdistan region during this year, rejecting any new excuse that might cause them to be postponed again.

This came during his meeting at his residence in Salah al-Din Resort with a high-level US delegation consisting of the US envoy to the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk, the US President's envoy for global infrastructure affairs Amos Hochstein, the US ambassador to Iraq Elena Romanowsky, a number of advisers at the US State Department.

A statement issued by Barzani's headquarters stated that the meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and the relations between the region and Baghdad, and emphasized "the need to resolve differences and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, and the importance of the role of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in overcoming the obstacles facing energy globally.”

Barzani stressed that "fair and transparent elections must be held in the region during this year, and that no excuse for delaying them will be accepted," expressing his hope that "meeting and coordination between political parties will continue in order to overcome challenges and support the regional government.”
