A specialized parliamentary committee reported that there are 126 laws included in the parliament awaiting political consensus, stressing that the first amendment to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law be referred to the Presidency for the purpose of presenting it for the first reading, and expected to discuss the law of the elect within two weeks.
The deputy head of the committee, Mortada Ali Hammoud Al-Saadi, said in a press statement that "126 laws have been included in the House of Representatives since previous sessions, awaiting political consensus."
He added that «there are laws that have been politically disputed since 2007, including the oil and gas law and the law of the Council of Supreme Policies for State Administration».
He pointed out that "disrupting laws is due in terms of approval or amendment to the absence of political consensus regarding many of them," stressing that "resolving laws is a necessity in order to complete building the state and defining powers."
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Ahmed Fawaz Al-Watifi, had revealed in a previous press interview that the suspended laws had reached nearly 100 laws, most of which concern large segments of society.
In addition, a parliamentary statement received by (Al-Mada) stated that “the Legal Committee held a meeting headed by Representative Rebwar Hadi, Chairman of the Committee, and the presence of its members, to discuss proposals and draft laws on its agenda.”
The statement added that "the committee discussed, during the meeting held at the headquarters of the Regions Committee, the proposal of the first amendment to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017."
He pointed out, “The committee decided to send the draft law to the Presidency of the Council; To be included in the Council’s business states for the first reading.”
The statement stressed, "Discussing the recommendations of the Council Presidency meeting with the heads of parliamentary committees, regarding activating the work of parliamentary committees and completing draft laws referred to them, especially laws that touch the daily reality of the citizen."
For his part, a member of the committee stated that “the law of the chosen ones is one of the laws postponed from the previous parliamentary sessions, but until this hour it has not been discussed by the legal committee.”
Muhammad added, “There are many laws that are still suspended, and we are working to gradually include them.”
And he suggested, “Discussing the law of the elected in the House of Representatives during the next two weeks,” noting that “after the discussion, it will be agreed on the wording of the law, the mechanism for linking the elected, as well as the financial allocations for them,” while stressing that “this matter requires government approvals before it is legislated by Parliament.” ".
It is noteworthy that dozens of Iraqi Mukhtars demonstrated last month in front of the Ministry of Planning within the Green Zone in central Baghdad.
It is noteworthy that the Legal Committee had agreed with the Presidency of Parliament to discuss laws that do not have a political dispute as a first stage, and thus the Council began to include projects, most of which are related to the ratification of international agreements.
