Ministry spokesman Khaled Shamal said; For the program “Without Accusation,” aired by the Al-Furat satellite channel this evening, Sunday, that: “The water revenues from Turkey represent about 50%, which has the most impact on the waters of Iraq, 15% from Iran, and 5% from Syria.”
He stressed that "the ministry is concerned with managing irrigation projects and following up the implementation of irrigation plans, as well as managing the technical side regarding the water file."
Shamal pointed out, "Iraq has gone through 3 dry years, and relied on and depleted water reserves, and the plans of the Ministry of Agriculture also contributed to depleting water reserves, and the urgent need to define agricultural and irrigation identity."
And that "resource management was affected by 70% of the water policies of neighboring countries, which cast a bad shadow over the water in Iraq, and the agricultural plans in the previous three years were unfair."
Shamal noted, "The upcoming visit to Turkey will contribute to solving many water problems, and the ministry, in cooperation with the security services, is carrying out a campaign against transgressors."
And he continued, "Iraq receives less than 30% of its rights in the Tigris and Euphrates, and Turkey has implemented major dams without coordination with the Iraqi side, and we have 3 major problems with the Ministry of Agriculture, including the definition of agricultural identity."
Shamal concluded by saying, "We started to boost the waters of the Tigris from Dukan Dam, and during the next two days, the water situation will improve in Maysan and Dhi Qar."
